Imagine having a boss that’s never done your job. That’s what it’s like to be an attorney and appear in front of a Superior Court Judge who has little to no experience in Superior Court.

But that’s not me.

For over a decade, I’ve actually been in a courtroom. I’ve argued numerous cases in front of a jury. I’ve litigated the tough legal questions judges have to decide. I’ve represented both criminal defendants and the State of North Carolina. I’ve demonstrated an ability to handle complex litigation and sensitive matters in Superior Court—sometimes without any legal precedent to rely upon.

I have the experience and knowledge to run a courtroom. I have what it takes to ensure our system of justice continues to serve the people for whom it was designed.

Indigent Defense Work: The Beginnings Of My Dedication & Personal Commitment To Equal Justice

Justice should never be determined by the size of your bank account. I’ve seen firsthand how the legal system can be a maze for those who can’t afford legal representation. It’s a completely different world than the one occupied by wealthy defendants with unlimited resources. My experience in representing indigent defendants in federal court sets me apart in this race.

Unlike working with clients who can hire boutique law firms, working as a federal public defender for those who have nowhere else to turn is a commitment to the most fundamental aspects of our justice system—the right to a fair trial and the right to legal counsel for everyone, not just those who can afford it. It’s this dedication to serving all people, especially the least among us, that I will bring to the Superior Court Bench.

My Role As A Prosecutor: A Higher Standard & A Commitment To Community

When I was sworn in as an Assistant District Attorney, I took a solemn oath that is different from the one taken by other attorneys. While every lawyer commits to upholding the law, prosecutors in North Carolina must swear to a higher duty: to “endeavor to have the criminal laws fairly and impartially administered.”

This isn’t just a promise to one particular client; it’s a commitment to our community and the State of North Carolina as a whole. My work has always been guided by this principle, ensuring that justice is served for all, not just a few. This oath is my personal creed, a constant reminder that my role is to seek truth and fairness, not simply to win cases. It’s this commitment to integrity and impartiality that I will bring to the Superior Court Bench every single day.
